IRVING, Texas (SMU) --- SMU outside hitter Kathryn Wilkerson was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week today by the league office.
Wilkerson averaged 4.22 kills, 3.33 digs and 0.78 blocks per set in two matches this past week. The senior started the weekend with 20 kills and 13 digs in a win over UTEP and followed with 18 kills and 17 digs at UCF. The Mustangs defeated UTEP, 3-2, and UCF, 3-1, to gain 23 wins this season, which ties a program record for most single-season victories.
Wilkerson, who is SMU's all-time career digs leader with 1,521, is one of only two active C-USA student-athletes (teammate Dana Powell is the other) to record over 1,000 career kills and digs. The Offensive Player of the Week award is the first of her career.
SMU returns home for senior weekend with matches against in-state opponents Houston and Rice at Moody Coliseum. Wilkerson, along with fellow seniors Caitlin Adair and Kenzie Bukolt, will be honored for their contributions to the Mustang volleyball program.
