SMU vs. UCF
SMU holds a 3-6-0 mark in the all-time series against Central Florida. The teams squared off Oct. 24 in Orlando, with the Knights defeating the Mustangs 3-0.
MUSTANGS ADVANCE ON PKs
SMU edged Rice 4-2 in penalty kicks in the quarterfinal of the Conference USA Championship Wednesday. Junior goalkeeper Courtney Webb made nine saves for the Mustangs through 110 minutes to send the game to penalty kicks. Webb actually scored the first goal for SMU in between stopping two of Rice's PK opportunities. Defender Katherine Cox, forward Logan May and defender Lauren Shepherd each converted PKs for the Mustangs to win the shootout 4-2.
NO GOAL FOR YOU!
With Wednesday's shutout, Courtney Webb further improved her new personal best of shutouts in a season to eight. She has also set new personal records in goals-against average (0.96) and save percentage (.816). Webb is second in shutouts in C-USA, trailing only Houston's Camille Koski (9).
SMU DRAWS TULSA
The Mustangs closed out the regular season with a 1-1 tie against the Golden Hurricane Oct. 28 at Westcott Field. Tulsa tallied its goal in just the fourth minute when Stephanie Aitken fired a shot from 18 yards out in to the far upper 90 for a 1-0 Tulsa lead. With just eight seconds remaining in regulation, sophomore Kenzie Scovill tallied her second goal of the season when she headed in a ball from Shelby Hartweck to send the game to overtime.
MUSTANGS FALL TO KNIGHTS
SMU was defeated by Central Florida 3-0 Oct. 24. UCF started the scoring with a goal on a header just 1:11 in to the game. The Knights added goals in the 30th and 52nd minutes to cap off the win.
MEDEIROS DISMISSES GOLDEN EAGLES
SMU downed Southern Miss 3-1 Oct. 22. Senior Kristin Medeiros got the Mustangs on the board with her goal in the 27th minute. Less than two minutes later, Amanda Burgardt gave SMU the lead when her shot from point blank found the back of the net. Sophomore Allegra Nigh added insurance in the 67th minute with her first goal of the season. Medeiros assisted on SMU's final two goals to complete a four-point night. With the win, SMU clinched a berth in the conference tournament.
SHE SHOOTS, SHE SCORES!
Junior defender Kaitlyn Eidson took just nine shots this season, six of which were on frame. Five of her six shots on goal found the back of the net, as she led the team in goals (5) and game-winning goals (3).
NEXT GAME
If the Mustangs defeat UCF, SMU will advance to the Conference USA Championship Game and face the winner of the Houston/Memphis semifinal matchup. The Conference USA Championship match is set for Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1:00 p.m.
