SMU vs. NORTH CAROLINA
This is just the second meeting ever between SMU and North Carolina. The teams played exactly five years ago today, as the Mustangs defeated the Tar Heels 3-2 in double-overtime in the NCAA quarterfinals in Chapel Hill on Dec. 3, 2005. SMU jumped out to a 2-0 lead, before UNC added a pair of second-half goals to send the game in to extra time. The Mustangs advanced to the College Cup on a goal by Michael Uremovich in the 104th minute from 35 yards out.
MUSTANGS NO. 5 SEED IN NCAA TOURNAMENT
SMU is the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament and received a first round bye. The Mustangs are making their 27th appearance in the tournament and hold a 31-21-6 all-time record in NCAA postseason play. SMU advanced to the College Cup in both 2000 and 2005.

The Mustangs are No. 7 in the final regular season NSCAA/HendrickCars.com National Rankings. SMU ranks first in the Midwest regional rankings.
EIGHT IS ENOUGH!
SMU shutout No. 12 William & Mary 1-0 Nov. 28 at Westcott Field. Senior Josue Soto scored the game's lone goal in the 11th minute. Freshman Robbie Derschang stole the ball from a Tribe defender in the corner of the field, then subsequently fed the ball to junior Ian Kalis at the top of the circle. Kalis found Soto, who powered the ball into the net for his seventh goal of the season and fourth game-winner. Goalkeeper Craig Hill made three saves on the night to earn the clean sheet.
HOW SWEET IT IS!
SMU twice rebounded from one-goal deficits to earn a 2-2 tie with No. 17 Creighton, and then won a penalty-kick shootout, 5-3, in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament Nov. 21. Freshman Juan Castillo started the Mustang rally when he headed in a cross from Kalis in the 79th minute. The goal was his team-leading 10th tally of the season. Junior Arthur Ivo netted his ninth goal of the season with just 15 seconds remaining in regulation to knot the game at two and keep the season alive for SMU. Ivo fired a bullet from 30 yards out that was deflected by a Creighton defender up and over Bluejay goalie Brian Holt. After two scoreless overtime periods, the teams went to a shootout. SMU won in penalty kicks, making all five goals, while Creighton netted three. Goalkeeper Craig Hill stopped the Bluejays' second attempt to give the Mustangs the advantage. Ivo locked up the win by converting SMU's fifth shot. Hill collected a season-high 11 saves on the night for the Mustangs.
SOUTH CAROLINA STUMPS SMU
SMU was defeated by South Carolina 2-1 in a Conference USA Championship semifinal Nov. 12. Ivo scored SMU's lone goal in the 30th minute when he received a pass from Kekoa Osorio and fed the ball in to the far lower corner from just inside the 18 yard box. South Carolina responded, netting the equalizer in the 45th minute and the game-winner in the 50th minute.
