DALLAS (AP) -Robert Nyakundi scored 22 points and Papa Dia added 20 as SMU defeated Grambling State 71-51 Saturday.

Nyakundi hit 7-of-8 shots from the field, including three 3-pointers, and added six assists for the Mustangs (5-4), who shot 61.4 percent, three days after shooting 37.5 percent in a loss.

Donald Qualls led the Tigers (1-7) with nine points.

SMU was 14 of 22 from the field (63.6 percent) in the first half and took a 40-23 lead into intermission.

The Mustangs hit 10 3-pointers and outrebounded the Tigers 29-23.
