SMU vs. EAST CAROLINA
SMU holds a 3-2-1 edge in the all-time series against East Carolina. The teams last met Oct. 11, 2009, when the Mustangs defeated the Pirates 2-1. Shelby Hartweck scored both goals en route to the SMU victory.
SMU vs. MARSHALL
SMU is 3-1-0 all-time against Marshall. The teams last squared off Oct. 9, 2009, with Marshall claiming a 1-0 win. The game was a defensive battle, as the Herd scored a goal in the 86th minute to secure the win.
BOWLED OVER BY RICE
The Mustangs fell 2-1 to Rice in overtime Sept. 26. All three of the game's goals were scored on set pieces. Freshman Amanda Burgardt tallied the Mustang goal in the 68th minute when she headed in the ball on a free kick from Lauren Shepherd to tie the game at one. The goal was Burgardt's second of the season, while the assist was Shepherd's team-leading fourth helper of the year.
HOUSTON SHUTS OUT MUSTANGS
SMU fell to Houston 1-0 Sept. 24 to open conference play. The match became a battle of defenses with the teams combining for just nine shots on goal. Goalkeeper Courtney Webb made five saves on the night for SMU. The game's lone tally was scored by Houston in the 63rd minute.
MUSTANGS MATCH ST. MARY'S
SMU tied St. Mary's 1-1 Sept. 19 at Westcott Field. Junior Logan May netted SMU's goal in the 65th minute when she fired a shot from 15 yards out. The goal was May's third of the season and third in as many games.
DUEL IN DENTON
SMU beat North Texas 3-2 in overtime Sept. 17. The Mustangs twice rebounded from one goal deficits to grab the win. Ryanne Lewis and Hartweck scored in regulation for the Mustangs, and May tallied the game-winner. The goals by Lewis and Hartweck were their first of the season. May's goal was her second of the season and second consecutive game-winner. With the win, SMU gave North Texas its first home loss of the season.
MUSTANGS TRIP UP NEW MEXICO
SMU defeated New Mexico 1-0 Sept. 12, handing the Lobos their first loss of the season. May headed in the game-winner in the 78th minute off a cross from Shepherd. It was May's first goal of the season.
AT HOME ON THE HILLTOP
The Mustangs are taking full advantage when playing on their home turf, posting a 4-1-1 record at Westcott Field in 2010. SMU has outscored its opponents 9-4 and recorded three shutouts in the six contests on the Hilltop.
NEXT GAME
The Mustangs return to Dallas as they host UTEP Oct. 8 and Colorado College Oct. 10 in C-USA action. The Miners lead all conference teams with a 9-1-0 overall record and a 2-0-0 record in C-USA action. The Tigers hold a 4-2-4 record and have a 0-1-1 mark in conference play.
