SMU vs. HOUSTON
The Mustangs hold a 9-1-1 record all-time against the Cougars, outscoring their South Texas counterparts 31-9. Last season, Houston recorded its first win against SMU in a 1-0 match in the Conference USA opener.
SMU EDGED BY RICE
In a deadlocked match for 80-plus minutes, Rice's Gabriela Iribarne and Quynh-Nuh Truong got on a 2-on-1 break deep in SMU's half in the 84th minute. Irabarne passed the ball to Truong on the left side, who then slotted a shot to the right side of the goal past Courtney Webb for the game-winner.
EIDSON'S BIG WEEK
Senior central defender Kaitlyn Eidson notched a pair of goals over the weekend (Sept. 23-25), the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over then-No. 19 UCF, along with a late goal to seal a 3-1 win over Southern Miss. Her performances garnered both conference and national recognition, being named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, as well as being tabbed to the Soccer America Women's Team of the Week and CollegeSoccer360.com's CS360 Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll.
MUSTANGS GOLDEN AGAINST EAGLES
Less than 48 hours after recording the program's first win over a nationally-ranked opponent, the Mustangs continued clicking when Southern Miss came to Dallas. Malloy Baum ignited the SMU offense with a fourth minute goal and Kenzie Scovill added another in the 35th minute. After a late goal by the Golden Eagles cut the lead in half, Kaitlyn Eidson put the game out of reach in the 86th minute with her second goal of the weekend.
DE-KNIGHTED
In the Conference USA opener, SMU pulled off some heroics at Westcott Field on Sept. 23, unseating the defending C-USA regular-season champions and preseason favorite, No. 19 UCF Knights, 1-0 behind a goal by Kaitlyn Eidson in the 63rd minute. The central defender redirected a low, line-drive shot by Courtney Smith on a free kick outside of the Knights' penalty box. The win was the Mustangs first victory over a ranked opponent since November 15, 2002 when SMU knocked-off No. 11 Texas 2-1 in the first round the NCAA tournament.
HOME COOKIN'
The Mustangs are 5-1 this season at home, outscoring their opponents 13-3, while outshooting the by a combined 77-40, and putting 21 more shots on frame. The defense has also produced three shutouts.
SHARING THE WEALTH
SMU has scored 15 goals on the year, with seven different players finding the back of the, including one own goal. Mallory Baum and Kenzie Scovill are tied for the team lead with two goals. Of the team's 12 assists, nine different players have tallied at least one, with Baum and Briana Gaines recording two apiece.
SPINNING A WEBB
In nine starts, goalkeeper Courtney Webb has recorded 29 saves, including three shutouts. The senior currently holds a 0.90 goals against average, which ranks third among keepers in Conference USA.
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
Mustang newcomers have accounted for 13 of the team's 42 points, including five of the team's 15 goals. Freshmen Rikki Clarke and Olivia Elliot have tallied two goals apiece, while sophomore Amelia Ambrose has one goal on two shots. Freshman Briana Gaines has also picked up a pair of assists, while Clarke has recorded one.
NEXT GAME
SMU heads to Memphis, Tenn., to take on No. 6 Memphis (10-0-0, 3-0-0). The Tigers defeated the Mustangs 3-0 at Westcott in 2010.
