AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) - SMU freshman Lucija Cvitanovic placed third in the javelin at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field West Preliminary Rounds at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Saturday, May 25, posting a 50.73m throw to advance to the NCAA Championship finals next month.

Cvitanovic and SMU teammates Stephanie Kalu (100m dash) and Elizabeth Murphy (hammer throw) will now represent SMU at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships June 5-8 in Eugene, Oregon.

In the women's 4x100m relay, the SMU team of Kalu, Isis Wilson, Craishia Washington and Rachel Scruggs finished just .05 seconds out of the final qualifying spot, crossing in 45.00 seconds. Helena Perez, C-USA outdoor shot put champion, posted a throw of 15.96m, nine inches short of the needed mark to advance.
