DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's swimming and diving team swept all 11 swimming events en route to a 141-96 win over North Texas on Friday afternoon in the Perkins Natatorium.
The Mustangs swept the top three spots in the 50-yard freestyle as juniors Nathalie Lindborg (23.71) and Nicole Parmenter (24.29) and freshman Marne Erasmus (24.66) finished in that order to boost SMU's team score. Lindborg also won the 100-yard freestyle (51.72), with Parmenter placing second (53.65).
The 500-yard freestyle also saw SMU account for the top three performances as senior Nina Rangelova (4:58.25), and freshmen Kirsty McLauchlan (5:05.01) and Ursa Bezan (5:05.14) finished in order.
"In the 50- and 500-free we had good lineups across the board," Head Coach Steve Collins said. "In the 500-, Kirsty has been a good addition to our team."
SMU started the meet by garnering the top-two finishes in the 200-yard medley relay. The combination of senior Monika Babok and juniors Isabella Arcila, Rachel Nicol and Parmenter finished in a time of 1:43.16 to lead the Mustangs. Senior Deanna Matthews and freshmen Tara-Lynn Nicholas, Bezan and Erasmus picked up second place points for SMU.
In the 200-free relay, Arcila, Lindborg, Babok and Rangelova (1:34.05) clocked the fastest time, with senior Lexi Farrar, McCall and sophomores Madison Meyer and Caitlin Gutschenritter (1:43.81) coming in with the second fastest mark.
"I was excited to see the three different medley groups together today," Collins said. "They were very focused today on theirs starts and being strong as a group."
The Mustangs also went one-two on the day in the 200-yard freestyle as Rangelova clocked in at 1:49.96 and Bezan followed in 1:53.25, and the 100-yard butterfly where Erasmus was first (55.67) and Babok second (56.44).
Alice McCall, who was the first individual victor of the meet for the Ponies, earned a commanding win in the 1,000-yard freestyle. The senior finished the event in a time of 10:19.23, which was over 20 seconds faster than her closest competitor.
Classmate Deanna Matthews was the victor in the 400-yard individual medley with a season-best time of 4:24.69, while McLauchlan was the second Mustang, and third overall, to touch the wall (4:30.22). Matthews also placed third in the 100-yard backstroke (59.77).
In her only individual event of the meet, Arcila paced all swimmers in the 100-back with a time of 56.21.
In the final individual event of the afternoon, Nicol (1:03.07) and Nicholas (1:04.35) lead all swimmers in the 100-yard breaststroke.
In diving action, freshman Lauren Lamb finished second in both the one-meter (249.97) and three-meter (238.27).
"Lauren did great in the one meter," Head Diving Coach Jim Stillson said. "That really showed where she's at right now. She did well in the three-meter and she's where we want her to be heading into conference. I'm very pleased with her performance."
The Mustang swimmers are back in action for a time trial event against Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT in the Perkins Natatorium. The meet will serve as senior day for SMU. Find meet information and live results at SMUMustangs.com.
