Getting To Know Women's Soccer: Lauryn Bodden

DALLAS (SMU) - In her final season on the Hilltop, redshirt senior goalkeeper Lauryn Bodden made her first two appearances of 2014 last weekend after missing the first 11 games due to injury.
Bodden believes her time on the sideline as helped her make an easier transition back into the starting lineup.
"It helps to see the game from that viewpoint," said Bodden. "I was able to see our strengths and some of our weaknesses for when I jumped back in."
Last weekend, Bodden saw her first action of the season, making both starts for the Mustangs on their road trip to Florida. In her first start on Friday, she recorded five saves in a 3-0 loss to 22nd-ranked UCF.
On Sunday, Bodden recorded a career-high 11 saves in a 2-1 loss to USF. Making her performance against USF even more special was that it came in her Tampa homecoming, as she attended the city's HB Plant High School. Bodden held the Bulls scoreless for the first 74 minutes of the game, before USF scored two goals in the final 16 minutes to edge SMU.
"It's hard, because I felt really good about the game," said Bodden about her homecoming. "To go that long in the game without getting scored on and doing so well, and then having two go in at the end. I have mixed emotions about it. I had family and friends that came and watched, but it's still really hard to look at in a positive light when we ended up losing."
The Mustangs will look to bounce back this week with home matches against Temple and UConn. Last year, Bodden recorded two shutouts against the Owls, once in the regular season and once in the conference tournament, and recorded a season-high six saves against UConn.
As impressive as the senior goalkeeper has been on the field, Bodden has excelled even more off the field.
Bodden graduated with a Sports Management degree in May and is now taking one class to earn a second degree in Communications. Bodden also serves as the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
"I've found so many opportunities off the field," said Bodden. "I had two internships over the summer. I was going straight from morning workouts to the office. I've always been one to be involved, so it's a big part of me to do as much off the field as on the field."
