KANSAS CITY, Mo. (SMU) - The SMU women's soccer team received the NSCAA Academic Team Award, the organization announced Monday.
To receive the recognition, a team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2013-14 academic year. The NSCAA annually recognizes college programs that have excelled in the classroom, in addition to their work on the field.
SMU has now earned the award four straight years and every year under head coach Chris Petrucelli.
This season, the Mustangs finished 7-14 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Championship. Freshman Claire Oates was named the conference's rookie of the year after leading the team in goals with six. SMU is now 25-31-5 in three years with Petrucelli at the helm.
