PROVIDENCE, R.I. (American/SMU) - Senior Nathalie Lindborg was named the American Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week, while freshman Madeline Wainman earned Diver of the Week accolades, league officials announced on Tuesday.
Trelleborg, Sweden, native Lindborg is the third Mustang swimmer to earn the honor during the 2014-15 season following classmates Rachel Nicol and Isabella Arcila. In SMU's meet with No. 21 LSU on Jan. 3, Lindborg earned the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle, just a race after she placed second in the 50-yard event. She was also part of a pair of second place relay teams in the 200-yard medley and the 400-yard freestyle.
In the Ponies' double dual against No. 4 Texas A&M and No. 11 Tennessee, she earned SMU's highest finish placing second in the 100-free, and was sixth in the 50-free. In relay action, Lindborg helped a 400-free team to a third place finish and the 200-medley squad to a fifth place finish.
In her first season with the Mustangs, British Columbia native Wainman earned her first weekly honor after a third place performance in the one-meter dive in College Station. Wainman was also fifth in the three-meter event at the meet. At the Tennessee Diving Invite held Jan. 3-5, her highest placement was a 15th place preliminary finish in the one-meter.
The Mustangs are back in action January 30-31 in a double dual with Texas and Arizona in Austin. Select student-athletes will travel to the Austin Grand Prix this weekend.
