Getting To Know Women's Soccer: Katie Carr

DALLAS (SMU) - Katie Carr strives to work hard as a member of the SMU women's soccer team, and her work ethic on the field and in the classroom is a plus for the Mustangs and the SMU community.
Carr, a native of Danville, California, wants to be successful at the college level and said that getting here early has really helped her on and off the pitch.
"It hasn't been too bad for me, especially being here over the summer. Taking classes kind of helped me get used to it and transition," Carr said. "On the field, the play is definitely a lot faster. I noticed my first practice this year that it was a big difference, but over time, you kind of just got used to it."
The midfielder made her debut in the opening match of the season against Saint Louis back on Aug. 21. Carr wanted to come to SMU because she really liked all it had to offer.
"It has a great soccer program and I really like it, but it also has a great engineering school, which is my major," Carr said. "I loved the campus and the kind of community we have here."
Carr likes to make a difference on the field by providing a strong work ethic to help push her team to get better.
"I think I bring energy, during practice I'm always giving it my all," Carr said. "I think it definitely stimulates the team during training and games."
Carr's favorite professional soccer player is Carli Lloyd, a member of the U.S. Women's National Team and 2015 World Cup Champion.
"I've always loved Carli Lloyd," Carr said. "She has a great work ethic and she's always inspired me."
Carr enjoys sleeping, reading and loves to scuba dive when she's not out on the field. She plans to major in engineering and wants to go in to management services to help businesses maximize profit when she graduates from SMU.
Carr and the Mustangs will face Tulsa tonight at 7 p.m. CT at Hurricane Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
