DALLAS (SMU) - SMU women's soccer players, Claire Oates and Vanessa Valadez, received American Athletic Conference honors for their play in 2015, the conference announced today.
Oates was named to the All-Conference Second Team, her second straight year receiving this honor. Last year's AAC Rookie of the Year recipient, Oates continued her stellar play as she scored four goals and tallied one assist in 2015.
Oates had two game-winning goals on the season against Texas Southern (Aug. 30) and Northwestern State (Sept. 13).
Valadez led the Mustangs in goals (8) and points (20) and was named to The American All-Rookie team. The redshirt freshman scored in back-to-back matches, two separate times in 2015. The forward had her first career multi-goal game against Northwestern State in a 3-0 shutout.
Valadez was named conference offensive player of the week in late September after scoring three goals in two matches against Cincinnati (Sept. 24) and East Carolina (Sept. 27). Valadez scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of regulation against East Carolina to give SMU its first conference victory of the season.
