SOUTHLAKE, Texas (SMU) - Nine student-athletes were honored as the SMU women's swimming and diving team celebrated Senior Day at the Carroll Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon. At the pre-conference time trial event, SMU recognized Isabella Arcila, Rachel Balke, Sky Corbett-Methot, Erica Donadon, Eleonor Lindborg, Nathalie Lindborg, Rachel Nicol, Nicole Parmenter and Natalie Schauwecker.
"This was a large group of seniors and it was great to see them come through here for four years," Head Coach Steve Collins said. "I'm very happy to have the opportunity to work with them. They're a super group of individuals who have done a lot for our program."
Today's exhibition event with North Texas and Oklahoma Baptist allowed the Mustangs to swim in events they wouldn't normally swim throughout the season.
"We wanted to use this meet to have a last opportunity to race, and for some of them that never get to swim certain events or certain races this is a great chance for them to do something different and still get some good racing in, which is going to help us in two weeks at conference," Collins said.
The day began with a pair of senior relays competing in the 200-yard medley event. The group of Eleonor Lindborg, Arcila, Nicol and Schauwecker competed alongside Nathalie Lindborg, junior Tiffany Sudarma, Donadon and Balke with the two separated by only .41 seconds.
Freshman Kyra Kondis paced SMU swimmers in the 50-yard freestyle posting a 24.20 in the event, which is a career-best time. She previously posted a 24.22 at the Texas A&M Invite this season. Kondis also won the 100-free in 53.45 improving her season time in that distance as well.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Arcila posted a 55.17 giving her the third fastest time in The American and the win. Sophomore Ursa Bezan also won the 100-yard backstroke posting a time of 56.72, which is just outside of the conference top 10.
The meet concluded with the 400-yard freestyle relay as the combination of first-years Alexandra Manasso, Kathleen Charron, Kondis and Adrienn Santa won the event in 3:30.57.
Freshman Madeline Wainman won the one-meter dive, scoring a 273.75 and placed second in the three-meter at 237.25.
"We're going to continue to train, but reduce the volume and be very specific with what we are trying to accomplish in the pool and try to give them a little bit more rest so they can recover and we can be at full strength when we get to the conference championship," Collins added.
SMU will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina, for the American Athletic Conference Championships Feb. 18-21 at the Greensboro Aquatics Center. Last season, the Mustangs placed second at the inaugural American Championship. For more information about the event click here.
