Mustangs Drop Match At Memphis, 4-2

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs picked up two singles wins, but could not overcome a tough Memphis squad, falling 4-2 to the Tigers at the Racquet Club in Memphis, Tenn., on Saturday.
Junior Nate Lammons, ranked 110th nationally in singles, recorded his 13th win of the spring, beating Kai Lemke 6-2, 7-6. Lammons' win tied the match at 2-2 after SMU freshman Charles Nettlefold beat Louis Asser at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Nettlefold's win was his eighth this spring, and his seventh at the No. 6 spot.
Memphis became the first team to take the doubles point against the Mustangs this season, taking a 1-0 lead to start the match. The Tigers then swept singles wins at positions 1-3, getting victories from each of their two ranked singles players - Connor Glennon (No. 56) and Andrew Watson (No. 54).
Sophomore Arkadijs Slobodkins' match at No. 5 singles went unfinished after he split the first two sets with Memphis' Patrick Mayer.
With the loss, SMU fell to 15-4 and lost consecutive matches for the first time this season. Memphis improved to 8-6 on the season.
SMU will return home to host Dartmouth on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT at the SMU Tennis Complex.
