DALLAS -- Lissi Lonsberry scored a pair of goals as the SMU women's soccer team capped off its spring season with a 5-0 victory over Abilene Christian on Saturday afternoon at Westcott Field.
The Mustangs ended the spring with a 4-1 record, outscoring their opponents 12-2.
"I think we were able to settle into a more consistent back four, which helps us," said head coach Chris Petrucelli about the spring. "We were more dangerous going forward and I think that's Vanessa [Valadez] being back and also having Lissi [Lonsberry] up there. There are a number of factors involved in it, but a lot of it is personnel."
Lonsberry opened the scoring in the seventh minute, putting away a loose ball in the box into the left side netting. She added her second goal in the 27th minute, dribbling through multiple ACU defenders before finishing into the left corner of the net.
In the 33rd minute, Claire Oates extended the SMU lead to three, heading in a Lauren Guerra corner.
Lonsberry's two goals brought her spring total to a team-leading five. Oates' goal was her third of the spring, good for second on the team.
In the second half, Lauren Guerra netted her second goal of the spring in the 50th minute, with a shot from the corner of the box into the upper left corner. Vanessa Valadez scored the Mustangs' final goal in the 89th minute, finishing off a Bari Kesner cross.
SMU outshot Abilene Christian, 19-4, and had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. In net, goalkeeper Shannon Moroney recorded her third shutout of the fall.
"They have a couple of weeks off for finals and then they go right back at it," said Petrucelli. "The biggest thing is to physically get ready for the fall."
