Meet Central | Friday Results
AUSTIN, Texas -- Stephanie Kalu narrowly missed a berth to the NCAA Championship in the 100-meter on Friday at the NCAA West Preliminary, as the senior finished 16th overall.
The top 12 advanced to NCAAs. Kalu finished with a time of 11.42, just .05 behind the 12th-place finisher. Kalu also competed in the 200-meter prelims, placing 21st overall (23.68) and advancing to tomorrow's final round.
"Stephanie competed well and ran a good race," said head coach Dave Wollman. "The competition was just a little better. I was proud of her for coming back from disappointment in the 100 and gathering herself and moving on to the second round of the 200. She has another big day tomorrow with the 4x100."
Karoline Skatteboe was set to compete in the steeplechase, but did not due to injury.
"Karoline is laughing and smiling as of 11 p.m. CT tonight," said Wollman. "We hope she will be okay and will learn from this."
The regional concludes tomorrow with a total of eight performers in action for SMU.
In addition to the 200, Kalu, along with teammates Shahira Ehiemua, Rachel Scruggs and Craishia Washington, will run in the 4x100 relay.
In field events, Isabella Marten opens the day for SMU in the triple jump. Lucija Cvitanovic, in the javelin, along with Rayann Chin and Tochi Nlemchi, both in the shot put, are also set to compete.
