DALLAS (SMU) -- Vanessa Valadez and Paige Jacobs were named to the American Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Weekly Honor Roll for their play against Sam Houston State and Northwestern State, the conference announced today.
Both players recorded points in each game, as SMU (3-3-2) went 2-0.
Against Sam Houston State, Jacobs led the Mustang scoring attack, tallying two goals off of crosses. It was Jacobs' second straight game with at least one goal, and SMU defeated the Bearkats, 3-1.
Valadez helped set up both Jacobs' goals, as well as a score from Lauren Guerra, and she finished with a single-game high, three assists.
The two Mustangs were back on the box score against Northwestern State when Valadez notched a pair of goals, just two minutes apart.
In the 82nd minute, Blair Thorpe sent a cross into the box, and Valadez headed it into the goal. In the 84th minute, Jacobs sent a pass to Valadez, who broke free behind the Northwestern State defense, sending a hard shot on goal that deflected off the goalkeeper and into the net.
Valadez leads the Mustangs in goals (4) and points (12). Jacobs now has three goals on the season, and three assists.
SMU will continue its six-match long home stand, as they take on TCU on Friday at 7 p.m. CT at Westcott Field. For tickets, go to www.smumustangs.com/tickets/.
