Getting To Know Women's Soccer: Catie Brown
Sep 17 | Women's Soccer
DALLAS (SMU) - Mustang goalkeeper, Catie Brown, has quickly adapted to the college game, and has performed admirably between the pipes in her first season at SMU.
Brown has two starts on the season and earned her first win against Texas Southern back on Aug. 31. The freshman positioned her defense well, and only faced two shots in the 5-1 Mustang victory.
"It was awesome, it felt really good especially because we hadn't got a win yet," Brown said. "Getting our first win was amazing."
The native of Sacramento, California said the transition from high school to college has been challenging, but it has also benefitted her, both on and off the field.
"It's definitely a lot different; it's been a good transition for me. Being able to come early for the summer, I think really helped a lot," Brown said. "I'm still trying to find out how I fit in to the team and I have to keep being true to the kind of player I am."
Brown has made five saves and has combined with senior goalkeeper Shannon Moroney to lead the American Athletic Conference in saves with 31. The freshman's choice to come to SMU was an easy one.
"I love the school, and I love the coaches and the whole environment here," Brown said. "It just really fit with what I wanted out of college."
The Mustang goalkeeper's favorite moment of the season came in an exhibition against Oklahoma State back on Aug. 14.
"It was a really good moment, I got a shutout in the first half and that felt really awesome to me," Brown said. "Even though it wasn't a season game, it was awesome to go out and play a good team and be able to come out strong."
Off the pitch, Brown plans to major in sports management with a minor in business. She wants to have a career in sports when she graduates from SMU.
"I want to work in the business side of sports, but I don't know for sure what I want to do with that yet," Brown said. "I definitely want to stay involved with sports."
Brown and the Mustangs will host TCU on Friday at 7 p.m. CT at Westcott Field. For tickets go to smumustangs.com/tickets.
