SMU Soccer Programs Earn 2015-16 NSCAA Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (NSCAA/SMU) – Both SMU soccer programs earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)'s Academic Award, the organization announced. SMU was one of 223 collegiate programs to have both their men and women's teams earn the award.
The SMU women's team, which posted a 3.27 team grade-point average for the 2015-16 academic year, has earned the honor for the fifth consecutive season. During the 2015-16 academic year, SMU had 15 members named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.
The SMU men's soccer team earned the academic award with a 3.35 GPA. During the 2015-16 season, the Mustangs also recorded the highest collective grade-point average in the American Athletic Conference in their respective sport. SMU had 20 members named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.
A total of 893 soccer teams (315 men, 578 women) earned the recognition for exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2015-16 academic year. To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
