Patterson and Heise Sweep Conference Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (The American/SMU) – The SMU volleyball team swept the American Athletic Conference weekly honors with Kendall Patterson earning her first Offensive Player of the Week award, while Morgan Heise was named Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, all during the five weeks of conference matches.
Patterson, a freshman setter, averaged 12.00 assists per set, recording 47 in a four-set win at USF and 37 in a sweep at UCF, and guided the Mustangs to a .246 attack percentage in the two road victories. SMU hit .279 at UCF, with the Knights entering the match holding conference opponents to a .189 attack percentage. Patterson aided three attackers to double-digit kills at USF, and all five attackers scored at least eight kills at UCF. She also posted 14 digs at USF for her eighth double-double of the season.
Heise averaged 5.71 digs per set in the two matches, eclipsing 20 digs for the 11th time this season with 22 at USF. The senior libero finished with 18 digs at UCF, averaging at least 6.0 digs in a match for the third time in the last four matches. Heise, who has been named conference Defensive Player of the Week 15 times in her career and was the league's Libero of the Year each of the last two season, is averaging 5.32 digs per set overall, and 5.20 digs per set in conference matches, both league highs. SMU is holding conference opponents to a league-best .167 attack percentage.
The Mustangs hold sole possession of first place in The American after the first round of conference matches with a 9-1 record and are 16-6 overall. SMU returns home after three straight road matches, hosting Houston Friday at 7 p.m. and Tulane Sunday at 1 p.m.
