No. 5 SMU Tops Delaware State, 12-6; SMU Sweeps MOP Honors

DALLAS (SMU) – The No. 5 SMU equestrian team closed out the fall season with a 12-6 victory over Delaware State Saturday at the Dallas Equestrian Center. The Mustangs won three-of-four disciplines, and swept the MOP honors, en route to its third victory of the year.

"I am excited to take home a win, in one of the best fall seasons in program history," SMU head coach Carol Gwin said. "We always enjoy competing against Delaware State because their team and coaches are of such high quality."

Both the western and hunt seat teams were dominant, outscoring the Hornets, 6-3.

In reining, the Mustangs posted a 3-1 victory. Keagan Snively led off the event and won her first MOP of the season, with a 71-64 victory over Monica Ellis. Casey Bibbs edged Aubrey Braham, 69.5-68.5, for the second point, before sophomore Olivia Pakula won the discipline for the Mustangs with a 68-66 victory over Shelbe Jarrett.

"The reiners rode outstanding today," Gwin added. "The group really provided the spark that we were looking for today, and I am really excited with the way the group ended the semester."

SMU topped the Hornets in horsemanship, 3-2. Michaela Dinger bested Jarrett, 74-63.5, en route to her first collegiate MOP honor. Junior-transfer Keaton Crawford notched the second point for the Mustangs with a 73.5-68 victory over Angelina Watts. Senior Hannah McCain made SMU history, posting a 76.5, the highest western score in program history. McCain had little trouble clinching the discipline, knocking off Abigail Buckwalter, 76.5-71.5.

SMU won Equitation on the Flat, 4-0. Senior Leina King defeated Sofia Zingale, 76-71, before sophomore Nora Gray beat Molly Gara, 80-66. Vivian Yowan clinched the discipline win with an 81-78 decision over Hayley Anderson.
