Patterson Named The American Offensive Player Of The Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/The American) – Kendall Patterson was named American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, and Morgan Heise was named to the weekly honor roll, after leading the SMU volleyball team to a pair of 3-0 wins, defeating UCF and USF. For the Mustangs, it was win number 20 and 21 this season, posting at least 20 victories in each of the last four seasons.
Patterson, a freshman setter, averaged 13.17 assists per set, allowing four attackers to score more than three kills per set. She leads the conference with 10.83 assists per set overall, and is second in the league in conference matches, averaging 11.12 behind Cincinnati's Jade Tingelhoff, who is posting 11.18 assists per set.
Patterson also recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 38 assists and 13 digs against USF. She posted 41 assists against UCF, eclipsing 40 in a three-set match for the second time this season. Patterson directed SMU to a .283 attack percentage with 16.00 kills per set as a team in the two wins.
Heise, who has been named Defensive Player of the Week four times, was named to the honor roll for the second time this season after averaging 5.83 digs per set in the two matches. She finished with 20 digs against UCF, finishing with at least 20 in a match for the 13th time this season. Heise leads the league with 5.22 digs overall, and is one of just two players averaging at least five digs in conference matches with 5.07 per set. Tulane's Kaylie McHugh is averaging 5.36 digs per set against conference opponents.
SMU has a one-match lead in the standings with four matches remaining. The Mustangs play three of their last four on the road, starting Wednesday at Tulsa.
