Patterson Named The American Offensive Player Of The Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/The American) – Kendall Patterson was named American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. The freshman led the SMU volleyball team to wins at Temple and Connecticut, clinching the American Athletic Conference championship and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Patterson finished the regular season with a conference-high 1,258 assists, averaging 10.94 per set, and averaged 12.00 per set in the two matches this week. She had 53 assists at Temple, one shy of her season high, lead the Mustangs to their first win at Temple. Patterson assisted three Mustangs to at least 15 kills at Temple, and four Mustangs to more than 10 kills at Connecticut.
Morgan Heise was named to the weekly honor roll after recording 39 digs in the two wins, including 25 at Connecticut. The senior led the league with 5.16 digs per set this season.
SMU finished the regular season with a 25-7 record overall, winning at least 25 matches in each of the last three season, and an 18-2 mark in conference matches, the most conference wins in program history. The Mustangs play Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday at 4 p.m. in Austin, Texas. This is the second straight season SMU has played at Texas in the tournament.
