The Week Ahead…

The Mustangs begin the spring portion of their schedule with a home event versus Creighton on Saturday at White Rock Lake. This is the first of two events to be held in Dallas. Action will kick off at 8 a.m. CT.

Scouting the Bluejays…

In their first event of the spring season last year, the Mustangs swept Creighton in all three Varsity 8 events at White Rock Lake. In 1V8+ action, SMU finished 7:53.1 for the victory, while Creighton clocked in at 8:27.0. In 2V8+ action, the Mustangs defeated Creighton with a time of 8:29.4 while the Bluejays came in at 8:39.8.

In fall action, Creighton dropped a matchup against Drake. The Bluejays claimed the Varsity 4+ race but Drake won the Varsity 8+ and the 2nd Varsity 8+ races.

Spring Break…

During Spring Break, the Mustangs had a five day training session at White Rock Lake. Along with logging over 100,000K meters, the Mustangs had a mini basketball tournament and team breakfasts as part of a team building week.

"I'm looking forward to racing this weekend," Head Coach Doug Wright said. "We had a very productive Spring Break despite bad weather with the win, rain and lightning. We've been doing a lot of indoor work and the good thing with that is that we can track their times a little more closely as individuals. We've seen some people with personal bests, which is encouraging because if they take that to the water, then I think we can get some good results from the crews."

Last Time Out…

The SMU rowing team posted a pair of top-five finishes at the 2015 Fall Invitational on the Verdigris River Friday and Saturday. The Mustangs produced top finishers in the Varsity 8 and the Novice 8.

SMU's top crew in the Varsity 8+ clocked in at 18:40.9 for a 4th place finish and was followed by a 9th place Mustang crew that finished 20:28.9. In the Novice 8+, the Ponies earned a 3rd place finish with a time of 20:42.9, beating their time of 22:39.5 earlier in the season at the Head of the Brazos.

In Varsity 1x action, SMU had crews finish 6th (22:28.8), 7th (24:02.2), 8th (25:05.3) and 9th (25:55.9). In Varsity 4 competition, the Mustangs finished 6th with a time of 20:02.4, 11th with a time of 21:26.0, 12th with a time of 22:24.5 and 13th with a time of 23:09.5.

Mustang Moody…

Junior Savannah Moody was invited to the US National Team ID Camp in Chula Vista, California, where the national body identifies rowers to compete on the U-23 National Team. The Under 23 World Rowing Championships are in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on August 21-28, 2016.

During the fall portion of the fall schedule, Moody helped her crew to a fourth place finish against Tulsa on Nov. 6 and a pair of top-three finishes at the Head of the Brazos on Oct. 10.

Last season, Moody was named first-team All-American Athletic Conference as part of the Mustang Varsity 8+ crew.
