DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's track and field team will start the outdoor season in Fort Worth Texas at the TCU Invitational Thursday and Friday. SMU student-athletes will compete against competitors from TCU, Abilene Christian, Arkansas State, Baylor, Harvard, North Texas, Texas, Texas State, Texas Tech, and UT-Arlington.
This will be the first action for the Mustangs since the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 27 and 28. The AAC Indoor Championships were highlighted by the five medals won by SMU's Tochi Nlemchi, Latessa Johnson, Lucija Cvitanovic, Craishia Washington, and Karoline Skatteboe.
All five will be competing at the TCU Invitational led by Cvitanovic competing in six different events on Friday. The senior multi-event athlete will run in the 100-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash along with competing in four different field events, the javelin throw, high jump, long jump and shot put.
Nlemchi will also compete in the shot put after winning the AAC Indoor shot put championship in February. SMU throwers Kennedy Godsey and Jacquetta Cannon will also be throwing the shot put with Nlemchi and the three will also compete in the discuss throw and hammer throw.
Johnson and Washington will each only be competing in the 100-meter dash after Washington finished as the runner-up at the AAC Indoors and Johnson won the 200-meter dash at the same event. AAC Indoor 3000-meter bronze medal winner Skatteboe will compete in the same event along with the 1500-meter run at the TCU Invitational.
Thursday's schedule will only include the hammer and discuss throw and Friday will include the remaining field events and all running events. Live results from the event can be found at http://www.flashresultstexas.com/2016/tcuinvuniv16/ for both days of the meet.
