WACO, Texas (SMU) - The SMU track and field runners earned five top-five finishes Saturday at the Michael Johnson Invitational at the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium. Karoline Skatteboe earned first-place honors, while Shanoah Souza earned runner-up honors in the 3000m Steeplechase.
Skatteboe, a Jar, Norway, native, claimed the only Mustang victory on the day, needing only 10:37.88 to take top honors. The senior writes her name into the SMU steeplechase record book for the second time in her career, clocking the eighth-fastest time in program history. Skatteboe now holds the fifth- and eighth-fastest steeplechase times in SMU history. Fellow senior Souza posted a 10:58.29 time to secure second-place honors. The Encinitas, Calif., native also adds her name into the steeplechase record book for the second time, clocking the 10th-fastest time in program history.
In the 1500m run, Holly Archer ran a 4:24.08 to earn a third-place finish. Michelle Gaye (4:33.26) and Agnes Sjostrom (4:35.76) rounded out the top 10, finishing eighth and 10th, respectively. Justine Anthony (4:47.22), Rebekah Bosler (4:51.84) and Cassidy Webber (4:54.51) all earned top-25 finishes.
In the 100m dash, freshman Latessa Johnson and senior Craishia Washington each earned top-five finishes. Johnson, a Dallas native, ran an 11.58 (11.578) to claim fourth, while Washington finished fifth with an 11.69. Senior Lucija Cvitanovic (13.22) placed 18th.
Freshman Robin Montemayor recorded a 19:19.44 in the 5000m run to earn 16th.
Jacquetta Cannon set PRs in both the shot put and the hammer throw. The Lancaster, Texas, native used a 14.93m throw to earn fifth place and claim the 10th-longest shot put throw in program history. In her first season competing in the hammer throw, Cannon tossed a PR 49.53m to claim sixth place.
In the long jump, Cvitanovic finished 13th with a 5.33-meter jump, while Anna Novosadova marked a 5.28 jump to finish 15th. In the 100m hurdles, Cvitanovic (14.76) finished 17th in the 33-participant field. Freshman Madison Pyle posted a 1:07.70 in the 400m hurdles to finish 25th.
The Mustangs will wrap up the regular season Saturday, April 30, in San Marcos, Texas, at the Texas State Invitational.
