Skatteboe, Cvitanovic Medal; Three Qualify for Finals

ORLANDO, Fla. (SMU) -
SMU seniors Karoline Skatteboe and Lucija Cvitanovic each won silver medals and earned eight team points apiece, on day three of the AAC Track and Field Championships at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex. After eight scored events, the Mustangs climb two positions on the leaderboard and own 46 points. Memphis and East Carolina are knotted for the lead with 50 points.

In the 3000m steeplechase, Skatteboe clocked a 10:34.22 to earn second place and All-Conference honors. The runner-up time is the eighth fastest time in the SMU steeplechase record book. The senior from Jar, Norway, now holds the fifth-, eighth- and ninth-fastest steeplechase times in program history. Fellow senior Shanoah Souza posted a time of 10:45.82 to secure fourth place and five points for SMU. In her first collegiate steeplechase appearance, freshman Anneke Grogan posted an 11:03.18 to claim ninth place.

Cvitanovic used a season-best 48.48-meter hurl in the javelin to win the silver medal. The senior has now earned All-Conference honors in the javelin all four years at SMU, three times in the American Athletic Conference and once in Conference USA. Anna Novosadova finished 15th, tallying 18.36m throw.

Sprinters Craishia Washington and Latessa Johnson ran into the SMU record book, clocking the third and fourth-fastest 100m dash times in SMU history, respectively. In heat one, Johnson recorded a heat-winning 11.60 to earn the second overall fastest time in the 23-runner field. Washington, a senior from Houston, Texas, led the Mustangs, running an 11.58 to win heat four and clinch the top time overall. Both earned automatic bids into the final heat, which takes place Sunday at 6:45 p.m. ET/5:45 CT.

Holly Archer clocked a 4:36.18 in the 1500m run preliminaries to finish second in heat two and secure a spot in the 1500m run finals. The 1500m finals will run at 6 p.m. ET/5 CT.

The American Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships will conclude Sunday at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex. The final day will feature the shot put, high jump, 1500m run, 100m dash, 800m run, 5000m run and the 4x400 relay. For more information visit The American Championship Central.
