The [RV] SMU men's soccer plays at Providence College Friday at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT and Brown University Sunday at 1 p.m. ET/ 12 p.m. CT. The game versus the Providence Friars can be watched through College Sports Live and followed via live stats. Series History…
This is the first meeting between SMU and the Providence College Friars. The Mustangs are 1-1-0 against Brown University. The last meeting between the two teams was in 2009 at the Brown Classic, the Bears won 1-0.
Mustangs hit the road…
SMU travels for its first road trip of the season this weekend. After opening the season with two weeks of home matches, the Mustangs head to Providence and Brown with a 2-2-0 record. The matches are two of only five away games for SMU this season.

After four regular season matches, the Mustangs are fourth in the AAC in points with 20. SMU is third in shots (47) and saves (15), while tied for third in goals (7), goals per game (1.75) and assists (6).

Brenden Lee is tied for second with six total points, averaging 1.50 per game. Lee is tied for second in goals, with three, while
Mauro Cichero is tied for fourth with two.
Bryce Clark is tied for second in assists with two, and
Michael Nelson is tied for second in saves with 15, averaging 3.75 per game.
About the Friars…
The Providence Friars are 2-2-0 overall, led by senior midfielder Julian Gressel and senior forward Mac Steeves. Gressel has scored three of the Friars' five total goals, contributing seven of the team's 17 points. He leads the Friars in shots with 17, seven of which were on goal. Steeves, the 2016 Big East Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and 2016 MAC Hermann Trophy watchlist honoree, finished third in the Big East in points and second in goals during the 2015 campaign. Steeves led the Friars with 28 points on 13 goals and two assists last season, notching five game-winning goals and tallied three, two-goal games. Steeves starts the 2016 season tied for second all-time at Providence in career points (63) and goals (27).
Scouting the Bears…
The Brown Bears have only played one match this season, beating Bryant 1-0 last Friday night. Senior forward Nate Pomeroy and junior midfielder James Myall led the way as Pomeroy scored the only goal of the match. Pomeroy posted 16 shots last season and heads into the 2016 season with 41 career games played. Myall has started 22 out of 24 games played over his first two seasons with the Bears. He boosted the Brown defense and helped the team finish with a 0.90 goals against average last season.
Major Matches…
SMU will face several top tier clubs in the 2016 season, starting with an NCAA Sweet Sixteen rematch vs. No. 10 Akron on Mon., Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. CT. In conference play, the Mustangs take on [RV] USF at Westcott Field on Sat., Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. CT. The match is set to broadcast on the American Digital Network. Other matches against teams receiving top 25 votes include: Temple, USF and Connecticut.
