For the second straight year, Hannah Miller will represent SMU at the NCAA Championship. The sophomore is set to compete Saturday at 8Â a.m. CT at the E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
Miller is one of 38 individual qualifiers that qualified for the national meet after a seventh place finish last week at the NCAA South Central Regional.
This year's meet will be streamed live on FloTrack with coverage scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. CT.
Miller will be the first Mustang to compete at the NCAA Championships in their first two years on the Hilltop since Agnes Sjostrom in 2013 and 2014. The Invercargill, New Zealand, native finished the 6-kilometer race in 21 minutes, 1.8 seconds to place 144th last season.
The sophomore was the Mustangs top finisher for the third consecutive meet at the regional setting a school record with a time of 19:50.7. Miller was named to the South Central All-Region team after crushing the record set by Silje Fjortoft in 2011 by eight seconds. Miller is seeking to become the first Mustang All-American since Fjortoft's 13th place finish (19:58.1) in 2011.

After winning the American Athletic Conference individual title two weeks ago, Hannah Miller followed up with a school record performance at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships. Miller led SMU to a fourth place finish as the Mustangs scored 148 points. No. 6 Arkansas won the meet with 35 points, followed by Texas with 93 points and Baylor with 116 points. Miller placed seventh overall and was the Mustangs top finisher for the third consecutive meet finishing the 6-kilometer course in a time of 19 minutes, 50.7 seconds. The Invercargill, New Zealand, native crushed the school record set by Silje Fjortoft in 2011 by eight seconds. Charlotte-Tara Murphy shaved nearly 10 seconds off her personal best time finishing 21st in a time of 20:35.8. Miller and Murphy now have the first and seventh fastest 6K times in school history. Both were named to the all-region team for the second straight year.

MILLER CLAIMS AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE INDIVIDUAL TITLE (Oct. 28, 2017)
Hannah Miller led SMU becoming the first Mustang to win a conference individual title since Silje Fjortoft in 2011. Miller was the Mustangs top-finisher for the second straight meet finishing the 6-kilometer course in a time of 21 minutes, 18.9 seconds. Tess Misgen and Marlene Gomez-Islinger also earned all-conference honors for the Mustangs placing eighth (21:57.5) and 10th (22:00.0), respectively.
MURPHY NAMED AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE ATHELTE OF THE WEEK (SEPT. 26, 2017)
Charlotte-Tara Murphy was named the American Athletic Conference Female Athlete of the Week. For the third consecutive meet, Murphy was SMU's top-finisher after placing fifth at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational last Saturday in Earlysville, Virginia. Murphy finished in the top-20 on the 5 kilometer course with a time of 17 minutes, 39.7 seconds. The Bury St. Edmunds, England, native improved four spots from a year ago when she placed ninth at Panorama Farms. Murphy also finished in the top-10 in the Mustangs previous two meets after winning the 5K (17:46.3) at the Gerald Richey Invitational on Sept. 16 and placing eighth in the 4K (13:44.5) at the Bear Twilight Invitational on Sept. 1. Murphy won her first weekly award this season and second of her career. Last season, Murphy garnered weekly honors after winning the 5K (17:23.7) at the Gerald Richey Invitational on Sept. 10, 2016.

Hannah Miller closed out her first cross country season on the Hilltop after finishing 144th out of 250 competitors at the NCAA Championship at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course. Miller finished the 6k in a time of 21 minutes, 1.8 seconds which was 23rd among the 49 freshman in the field.

Cathy Casey has been the head of the Mustangs' cross country program since 2005 and has played a pivotal role in the programs swift rise to national prominence. She has led the Mustangs to four league titles in the past seven years and six in the last 10 years. During each of the championship seasons, she earned Coach of the Year honors. Last season, SMU won the conference title after placing six in the top-20 to record 45 points and edge two-time defending champion Tulsa by two points (47).
