Mustangs Head To Tulsa Fall Invitational

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU rowing team will travel to Tulsa Fall Invitational on Friday and Saturday for the final meet of the fall calendar. The 4,800-meter head-style regatta includes SMU, Kansas, Central Oklahoma and Tulsa.
Head-style racing refers to races that involve shotgun starts and teams racing against the clock. Unlike a 2,000-meter sprint race where teams line up side-by-side and start together, head races funnel each boat through the start line one by one.
At the Head of the Oklahoma to open the season, the Mustangs' best finish came in the Open 2-, with Alyssa Sands and Lauren Vanek rowing to a sixth-place finish out of 30 entries with a time of 16:49.318.
The Tulsa Fall Invitational will be the Mustangs' second, and final, head-style regatta of the 2017-18 season before moving into sprint races in the spring. SMU's first event of the spring calendar is a scrimmage against Iowa on February 10-11 in New Braunfels, Texas.
