PONTE VERDA BEACH, Fla. (SMU) – The SMU men's golf team shot a 13-over-par 293 in the third round of the Sea Best Invitational to bring its three-round total to a 41-over-par 881. The Mustangs finished the two-day tournament 11th overall.
Senior
Alex Higgs finished the day at 1-over-par (71) with a pair of birdies. The Overland Park, Kan., native climbed 17 positions on the leaderboard to finish tied for 30th at 9-over-par (74-74-71 – 219). Sophomore
Gray Townsend carded a 4-over 74 in the final round to finish tied for 36th at 10-over-par (73-73-74 – 220).
Freshman
Daniel Connolly shot a three-round 223 to finish 52nd (+13, 68-77-78).
Andrew Buchanan and
Jackson Markham both finished tied for 60th with a two-day 224 (+14).
Second-ranked Florida won the team tournament (-4, 836), while Florida's Ryan Orr (67-66-71 – 204) and Alejandro Tosti (68-68-69 – 205) claimed first and second place, respectively, in the individual event.
The Mustangs will return to Texas and compete at the All-American Intercollegiate in Houston from Feb. 17-19. The three-day event will be held at the Golf Club of Houston. Last season, SMU finished 5th (+14, 878). More information on the tournament can be found at smumustangs.com.
