The No. 6 ranked SMU equestrian team returns to conference action, as the Mustangs host No. 5 Fresno State Friday at 10 a.m. at the Dallas Equestrian Center. The following day, SMU will celebrate senior day, as it hosts No. 9 New Mexico State at 10 a.m. The Mustangs will honor their 10 seniors at 9:30 a.m. CT. ABOUT SMU: The Mustangs are 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the United Equestrian Conference (UEC) after an 11-9 loss to then-No. 2 Texas A&M last Saturday. SMU is ranked No. 6 in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) poll. SMU kicked off the season with a 9-8 road win at then-No. 3 TCU on Sept. 23, 2016, before topping then-No. 9 Oklahoma State, 10-8, on Oct. 15, 2016, for the first win at SMU's new facility, the Dallas Equestrian Center.

SMU's BY THE NUMBERS: In the English arena, the hunters boast a combined-discipline record of 4-1, outscoring opponents 29-17. In equitation over fences, SMU has a 4-1 mark and is outscoring opponents 17-8. Senior Alexis Graves and freshman Vivian Yowan are 4-1 over fences this season, with three MOP awards combined. In equitation the flat, the Mustangs hold a 3-2 record and have outscored opponents 13-8. Yowan holds a 4-1 record on the flat, while Haley Zimmerman boasts a 3-1 mark. Senior Leina King remains undefeated at 2-0. Yowan, a Darien, Conn., native, leads the hunt seat team with eight wins. Sylvia de Toledo and Haley Zimmerman each have five wins apiece, while Graves and Nora Gray boast four. de Toledo was named the UEC Equitation Over Fences Rider of the Month in October, while Yowan was named the over fences Rider of the Month in November.

In the Western arena, Hannah McCain (4-1) and junior transfer Keaton Crawford (3-0-1) lead the western team. Keagan Snively, Casey Bibbs and Michaela Dinger all have two wins apiece. Dinger was named the UEC Horsemanship Rider of the Month in November.

SCOUTING FRESNO STATE: The No. 5 Bulldogs are 5-2 overall, with a 3-0 record in the United Equestrian Conference. Fresno State has won three of its last four meets, including wins against No. 1 Auburn (11-5) and then-No. 6 South Carolina.

ALL-TIME AGAINST THE BULLDOGS: SMU takes on Fresno State for the 13th time. The Bulldogs hold a 3-9 all-time advantage. Last season, then-No. 10 SMU upset then-No. 7 Fresno State, 10-10 (1487.50-1465), at Sleepy P. Ranch in Argyle, Texas, on Feb. 6, 2016.

SCOUTING NEW MEXICO STATE: The No. 9 Aggies are 4-4 overall, with a 2-1 record in the UEC. New Mexico State has won three of its last five meets, including a 7-7 (1201.25-1052.25) tie-breaker win against No. 1 Texas A&M.

ALL-TIME AGAINST THE AGGIES: SMU takes on New Mexico State for the 11th time. The Mustangs hold a 7-3 all-time advantage. Last season, then-No. 10 SMU fell to then-No. 9 New Mexico State, 9-9 (1501.25-1479.25), at Sleepy P. Ranch in Argyle, Texas, on Oct. 3, 2015.

LAST TIME OUT: Freshman Vivian Yowan won both of her points, and No.5 SMU outscored No. 2 Texas A&M, 7-3, in the hunt seat arena, but the effort fell short as the Mustangs lost 11-9 Saturday at the Dallas Equestrian Center. The Mustangs (3-2, 1-0 UEC) opened the day with a 4-1 win in Equitation over Fences. Senior Alexis Graves opened scoring with a 74-72 win over Rebekah Chenelle, before Sylvia de Toledo topped Kai Devoglaer, 80-69. Yowan won her first point of the day, and clinched the discipline with an 88-86 edge over Alex Desiderio. Fellow freshman Haley Zimmerman knocked off Haley Webster, 82-71, to round off the discipline. In Equitation on the Flat, sophomore Alexandra Murphy opened the discipline with a 78-74 win over Maddie Swem. Yowan topped Rachael Hake, 75-74, for her second win of the day, before Leina King used a 77-75 win over Chenelle to clinch the discipline for SMU. Yowan improved to 8-2 on the season following both her wins. She is 4-1 record in each discipline. Madison Steed and Keagan Snively each recorded wins in reining. Steed won the reining MOP after a 72.5-70.5 win over Sarah McEntire. Snively edged Jaci Marley, 70-69.

UP NEXT: The sixth-ranked SMU equestrian team returns to action and celebrates senior day Saturday, as it hosts No. 9 New Mexico State at 10 a.m. The meet will be SMU's final home meet of the season. The Mustangs will honor their 10 seniors prior to the competition (9:30 a.m.)

SMU EARNS HIGHEST RANKING IN PROGRAM HISTORY: The SMU equestrian team earned its highest ranking in program history, being ranked No. 4 in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) poll, after beating then-No. 9 Oklahoma State. SMU surpassed its previous high of fifth after wins at then-No. 3 TCU and most recently then-No. 9 Oklahoma State. SMU's previous high ranking of fifth came in November of 2014, after the Mustangs topped three consecutive top-10 teams, including No. 1 Georgia, No. 8 Texas A&M and No. 10 New Mexico State.

SMU CAREER WINS LEADERS: Senior Sylvia de Toledo became SMU's all-time career wins leader after a 79-77 Equitation Over Fences win over TCU's Patty Gill. She passed former teammate Schaefer Raposa. With one win versus Texas A&M, she now has 57 wins in her tenure on the Hilltop.

ROLLING IN MOPS: Through five meets, SMU has won 10 MOPs, six in the hunt seat arena and four in the western ring. Freshman Vivian Yowan leads the team with two, while Alexis Graves, Nora Gray, Haley Zimmerman, Michaela Dinger, Hannah McCain, Keagan Snively and Madison Steed each have one. McCain has six career honors, and de Toledo has 10.

HOME SWEET HOME: The SMU equestrian team has moved to the Dallas Equestrian Center (DEC), which will serve as its official stables and training facility. SMU is 2-1 at the DEC. The DEC, which was formally known as Park Lane Stables, resides on 10 acres in the heart of Dallas and is 3.5 miles from the SMU campus. The facility features three indoor arenas with new footings, two new outdoor arenas, and 20 new state-of-the-art paddocks with cover. Renovation plans include upgrades to a tack room and the addition of a club house with locker rooms and coaches' offices. In addition, a 10 horse European horse walker will be added to the facility. WELCOME TO SMU: SMU Equestrian head coach Carol Gwin has announced the addition of six student-athletes for the 2017-18 season, as Brett Burlington, Kirsten Ostling, Kerah Pedergraft, Jill Pfisthner, Sharese Rivait and Ransome Rombauer have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Mustangs.

In 2016-17, SMU equestrian head coach Carol Gwin signed eight riders, four hunt seat riders and four western riders. Hunt seat riders are Mary Elizabeth Cordia, Carly Crossfield, Vivian Yowan and Haley Zimmerman. Holly Lansidel, Kara Vickery, Keaton Crawford and Jaclyn Landers make up the western newcomers.

ACADEMIC SUCCESS: Last season, 14 members of the SMU equestrian team earned NCEA academic honors. Six riders earned spots on the Beval Saddlery Academic All-America team, while 13 were named to the La Hacienda Academic Honor Roll. Schaefer Raposa, Sylvia de Toledo and Keagan Snively achieved first-team status, which is awarded to student-athletes who competed in a minimum of 70 percent of meets during the 2015-16 season, and earned a cumulative 3.5 GPA while maintaining full-time enrollment in the 2015 spring and fall semesters. de Toledo achieved a team-high 3.97 GPA, Raposa boasted a 3.70 and Snively maintained a 3.54.

2015-16 SEASON RECAP: The Mustangs posted a 7-10 record and finished tied for first (4-2) in the United Equestrian Conference. SMU advanced to the NCEA National Championship quarterfinals after a 10-6 upset over the defending-champion and No. 7 seed South Carolina. During the regular season, SMU topped three ranked-opponents: No. 6 South Carolina, No. 7 Fresno State and No. 3 Texas A&M. SMU was ranked as high as No. 6, and spent 10 of 13 weeks in the polls.
