DALLAS (SMU) – The No. 43 SMU women's tennis team edged Georgia State, 4-3, Monday night at Turpin Stadium.  
 
The Mustangs took the doubles point with wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Ana Perez-Lopez and Sarai Monarrez Yesaki picked up a 6-2 win against Kristin Rehse and Damira Muminovic. The senior duo of Mary Wright and Dasha Sharapova clinched the point for SMU with a 6-2 victory against Daniela Ramirez and Anastasia Grosheva.

Georgia State tied the match at 1-1 with after Grosheva's 6-2, 6-3 win in No. 5 singles against Mary Wright. However, SMU picked up back-to-back wins to pull ahead 3-1 with wins from Charline Anselmo and Sharapova. Anselmo returned to the court for the first time since Feb. 4 and improved to 5-1 in dual matches this season. The freshman defeated Lara Vovk, 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 6 slot, while Sharapova picked up her 12th win with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 victory against Daniela Ramirez.

The Panthers battled back and evened the match at 3-3 after recording wins in No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Buss fell to Rehse, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5), while Monarrez Yesaki dropped a close match to Arina Taluyenko, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.

With the match tied, Perez-Lopez showed resolve with a come-from-behind win against Damira Muminovic in No. 4 singles to secure the team victory for the Mustangs. The sophomore dropped the first set (6-4) but would take the next two (6-2, 7-5) to earn her ninth win of the season. Perez-Lopez also won the game-clinching match against Arizona on March 5 to give SMU a 4-3 victory.

The Mustangs have a quick turnaround as they host Cincinnati in a conference matchup tomorrow at the SMU Tennis Complex. First serve is slated for 4 p.m. CT.
