DALLAS (SMU)— The SMU men's tennis team fell to No. 24 Columbia 4-1 Tuesday afternoon at the SMU Tennis Complex. The Mustangs are now 9-4 and 2-0 in The American, while the Lions improved to 9-2.
Columbia earned the first point of the afternoon winning the doubles point with victories on Court 2 and Court 3.
In singles play, SMU battled in several tight matches. The first set went to tie breakers on Court 1, 2 and 3. No. 50
Ronald Slobodchikov fought to the ninth tie break point before dropping 9-11 to give No. 72 Shawn Hadavi the 7-6 win in the first set. On Court 2, No. 56
Hunter Johnson battled No. 91 Victor Pham in a close first set, but dropped the tie break 6-4, giving Pham the 7-6 first set victory. No. 56 Johnson eventually fell to Pham 6-3 in the second set.
Yates Johnson earned the Mustangs' point in singles play beating Columbia's Adam Ambrozy in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Hunter and
Yates Johnson lead all Mustangs with an overall 7-3 record.
SMU heads to California for the BNP Paribas Collegiate Challenge By ORACLE this weekend. Opponents and times are to be announced.
