The American Weekly Honors Release
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU) – SMU senior
Holly Archer was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday.
The Bury Saint Edmunds, England, native picks up her first career conference honor after running a season-best time of 2 minutes, 9.26 seconds in the 800 meters to win the Bobby Lane Invitational last week. Archer has the fastest time in The American and ranks 11th nationally.
The senior also ran the leadoff leg of the 4x400-meter relay team that held off Texas State at the finish line to win in a season-best time of 3:46.19, which is the second fastest time in the conference.
Archer is the first Mustang to garner Track Athlete of the Week accolades this season and the first since Stephanie Kalu received the honor in 2015 (January 27, 2015).
The Mustangs will send athletes to three different meets this weekend. SMU will head to the West Coast for a pair of meets with the San Francisco State Distance Carnival (March 30-April 1) and the Stanford Invitational (March 31-April 1). The Mustangs will also compete at the Bobcat Invitational (March 31-April 1), hosted by Texas State.
