DALLAS (SMU) – After splitting a pair of road matches last week, the SMU women's tennis will wrap up the regular season with matchups April 13-14 at North Texas and at home against ULM.
The Mustangs finish their three-match road trip against the Mean Green Thursday at 5 p.m. CT, before returning to Dallas for their regular season finale against the Warhawks Friday at 1 p.m. CT.
LAST MATCH: (W, 7-0 at Houston – April 8)
SMU picked up its third conference win with a 7-0 road victory against Houston last week at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility. The Mustangs grabbed their first road win of the season and improved to 16-4 overall and 3-0 in The American, while the Cougars fell to 9-11 and 1-3 in league play.
SCOUTING NORTH TEXAS
North Texas has picked up quality wins against Wisconsin (4-3), Arizona (5-2) and Memphis (4-1). The Mean Green have played a tough schedule with close losses to Oklahoma (4-3), Washington State (4-3), Wichita State (4-3) and Georgia State (4-3). North Texas is led by sophomore Maria Kononova, who is ranked No. 63 and is 15-3 in the spring in No. 1 singles. The doubles duo of Kononova and classmate Tamuna Kutubidze is 13-0 in No. 1 doubles.
SERIES HISTORY:
SMU is 10-1 all-time against North Texas and will meet the Mean Green for the second straight year. The Mustangs pulled out a 4-3 victory at home last year.

SCOUTING ULM
ULM is undefeated in league play at 5-0 and carries a 12-1 overall record. The Warhawks are on a 11-match winning streak, which included a 4-3 road victory against No. 40 Tulane. ULM's senior Petra Horakova and sophomore Tiffany Mylonas are both undefeated at 12-0 and 11-0, respectively.

SHARAPOVA NAMED THE AMERICAN PLAYER OF THE WEEK (3/21/2017)
SMU senior Dasha Sharapova was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week. The Gomel, Belarus, native earns her third career conference honor after going a combined 6-0 in singles and doubles play, while leading the Mustangs to 3-0 record last week against Georgia State, Cincinnati and Kansas State. Sharapova picked up the honor once during her sophomore season (March 17, 2015) and again last season (Feb. 16, 2016).
MONARREZ YESAKI NAMED THE AMERICAN PLAYER OF THE WEEK (3/7/2017)
SMU freshman Sarai Monarrez Yesaki was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week. The Monterrey, Mexico, native earns her first conference honor after going a combined 3-1 in singles and doubles play, while leading the Mustangs to a 2-0 record last week against UCF and Arizona.

2017 OUTLOOK:
SMU is led by seniors Mary Wright, Macie Elliott and Dasha Sharapova after the graduation of all-conference performers Vaszilisza Bulgakova and Hristina Dishkova.
Gyulai has added a talented group of newcomers to the roster, including Charline Anselmo, Liza Buss, Sara Jamal, Sarai Monarrez Yesaki and Ellie Zogg. Buss transferred from Iowa State after earning All-Big 12 second-team honors and All-Big 12 Freshman team accolades last season. Zogg was a five-star recruit out of high school and transferred from South Carolina after her freshman season last year. Anselmo, Monarrez Yesaki and Jamal are all freshman.
Gyulai is in her sixth season at the helm on the Hilltop and led SMU to 14-10 record last season and a ITA ranking as high as No. 49 (Feb. 23) during the season. Gyulai also guided SMU to the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Championship for the second-consecutive year.
ABOUT SMU TENNIS COMPLEX:
To ensure the future success of SMU's historic tennis program, a new SMU Tennis Complex, Turpin Stadium & Brookshire Family Pavilion opened in 2015. The new complex is a preeminent, top-tier facility located prominently on the south side of Mockingbird Lane at the corner of North Central Expressway, formerly the site of Mrs. Baird's Bakery.
The new complex provides both indoor and outdoor courts as well as a training center for student athletes and coaches, ensuring that Mustang players can train year-round on campus. In addition, patron accommodations optimize comfort and viewing and include special guest amenities and a club area, providing an enhanced spectator experience.
Match-day parking for the SMU Tennis Complex is available on campus in the Binkley and Moody Parking Centers. We ask that visitors not park in the residential areas surrounding the facility or in Park Cities Plaza.
HOME SWEET HOME:
SMU took advantage of the two-year old SMU Tennis Complex, starting the season at home with six straight matches.
From Feb. 26 to April 1, the Mustangs played total of 10 matches on the Hilltop, including four nationally ranked opponents (Arizona, Wichita State, Georgia State, UT Arlington) from the final ITA poll from last season. The Mustangs went 9-1 during that stretch.

SMU returns to action at the American Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Championships, which will be held at the USTA National Campus from April 19-22 in Orlando, Florida.
