USRowing U23 National Team |
row2k.com Release
West Windsor, NEW JERSEY (SMU) – Savannah Moody was named to the USRowing roster for the 2017 Under 23 National Team. The recent SMU graduate is one of 69 athletes that will compete July 19-23 at the 2017 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Moody is the first Mustang to be selected to the U.S. U23 National Team.
"I am so honored to be representing the U.S. at the World Championships this summer," Moody said. "This has been a long awaited moment for me. It's so rewarding to see all of the extra work I've been putting in paying off. A couple of years ago, I looked at the US rowers as these untouchable athletes that I could never compare to. Now I am one of them and I really hope I can inspire young athletes with the same dreams that they can do it too."
The international competition will feature U.S. crews in 21 events, including men's and women's single sculls, lightweight men's and women's single sculls, men's and women's double sculls, lightweight men's and women's double sculls, men's and women's quadruple sculls, lightweight men's and women's quadruple sculls, men's and women's pair, lightweight men's pair, men's and women's four, lightweight men's four, men's four with coxswain, and men's and women's eight.
Moody is one of four women named to the Women's Quadruple Sculls along with Meghan Gutknecht of the University of Michigan, and Elle Delleman and Christine Cavallo from Stanford University.
The U.S. earned three medals at the 2016 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, a gold in the women's four and women's eight and a bronze in the men's pair.
