LOS ANGELES (SMU) – A late penalty kick goal by Vanessa Valadez propelled the SMU women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Loyola Marymount in exhibition play Saturday.
 
In the 63rd minute, Valadez converted a penalty kick attempt to give the Mustangs the lead and the eventual win.
 
Veteran goalkeeper Catie Brown, along with the backline, grabbed a clean sheet while allowing just five shots.
 
SMU hosts No. 17 Arkansas Friday at 7 p.m. at Westcott Field to open the regular season. Admission is free of charge to attend.
