DALLAS (SMU) –
The Mustangs fell in heartbreaking fashion to Southeastern Louisiana, 63-62, inside Moody Coliseum on Tuesday night.

After the Mustangs erased a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter, senior Alicia Froling hit a go-ahead put back with 15 seconds to go in the contest. On the other end, Morgan Carrier hit the Lions' 13th three-pointer of the game to push Southeastern up by one with 3.4 seconds remaining. This proved to be the game-winner as the Mustangs were unable to match on the other end.

The Mustangs (2-3) started the game quick, jumping out to a six-point lead after one period. Froling added eight rebounds in the period. A rough second quarter put the Mustangs down eight at the half, after the Lions outscored SMU, 22-8, in the second period.

After only forcing one turnover in the first, the Mustangs defense responded by generating 10 second-half turnovers to aid the Mustang's comeback attempt. SMU cut the Lion lead to five heading into the final frame.

For the third consecutive game, the Mustangs made a furious comeback in the game's final minutes. Trailing by double-digits in the fourth, SMU went on an 11-0 run to even the score on an Alicia Froling game-tying baseline jumper. After SLU jumped back ahead, Amber Bacon retied the game on a pair of free throws at 60 a piece before the game was decided by Froling's and Carrier's final buckets. Bacon is hitting .917 from the line in her freshman campaign.

Froling had her fourth double-double in five games this season and 40th of her career. The senior also led the Mustangs in assists and finished with 18 rebounds. She moved into second all-time for SMU career rebounds, passing both Shasta Smothers-Johnson and Karlin Kennedy. Froling is averaging 13.2 points and 12.6 rebounds per game this season.

Southeastern Louisiana (3-1) connected on 13-of-33 threes in the game and assisted on 18 of 21 made baskets. SMU limited the Lions to just four offensive rebounds, allowing four second-chance points while scoring 22. The Mustangs have fallen in their last three games by a combined four points.

Celica Sterling highlighted the Southeastern effort by dropping 29 points. Sterling hit eight threes, a Moody Coliseum record.

Next up, the Mustangs travel to California for the LMU Invitational. Their first game against Robert Morris tips at 2:30 p.m. on Friday from Los Angeles.
