DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's tennis team (5-3) is slated to take on Texas A&M (7-0) on Saturday, Feb. 17, and conference-rival USF (1-4) on Sunday, Feb. 18. Both matches will begin at noon at the SMU Tennis Complex, Turpin Stadium & Brookshire Family Pavilion.

The Mustangs return to the court after going 2-1 in last weekend's matches against UCF, Northwestern State and Collin College. SMU fell to UCF, 6-1, on Friday, picking up wins behind Anzhelika Shapovalova and Tiffany Hollebeck and No. 2 doubles and Ana Perez-Lopez at No. 5 singles. Against Northwestern State, the Mustangs earned wins in every match except No. 1 singles to earn a 6-1 win. SMU picked up a 7-0Â win over Collin College Monday, winning each singles match in straight sets.

SCOUTING TEXAS A&M:
Texas A&M comes to Dallas with a perfect 7-0 record to begin dual match season, matching the best start in program history. Despite receiving votes in the season's first team rankings, the Aggies never managed to break into the top 25. Texas A&M does have one ITA-ranked singles player in No. 87 Domenica Gonzalez. Four of the Aggies' players are currently unbeaten in dual match play: senior Domenica Gonzalez, senior Eva Paalma, freshman Riley McQuaid and senior Macarena Olivares.

SCOUTING USF:
The Bulls entered the season as the American Conference champions, but USF has struggled to pick up where they left off last season. The team is 1-4 entering the weekend, with a match against No. 21 Texas before traveling to Dallas. USF's losses come against tough teams, including North Texas, No. 15 South Carolina, No. 7 Georgia Tech and Dartmouth, while its victory over Troy stands as the team's sole win. Junior Ana Roman Dominguez began the season at No. 97, but has since fallen out of the top 125.

SMU began facing both Texas A&M and USF in 1995, but holds a losing overall record against each team. The Mustangs last faced Texas A&M in February 2017, when the Aggies were ranked 22nd in the ITA Rankings, and fell 6-1. SMU met USF in the 2017 American Athleteic Conference Championship semifinals, but lost 4-2. The Bulls went on to claim last year's conference title.

The SMU women's tennis team claimed two wins on Monday, sweeping Collin College 7-0 and defeating Northwestern State 6-1 at the SMU Tennis Complex.

The Mustangs struck first against Collin College, the No. 12-ranked junior/community college in the ITA rankings, by quickly earning the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Karina Traxler/Sarai Monarrez Yesaki defeated Sydney Albro/Makeilah Turner, 6-0, while Ana Perez-Lopez/Nicole Petchey defeated Nicole Maldonado/Taylor Chapman, 6-1.

SMU continued its dominance in singles, winning each match in straight sets to complete a 7-0 sweep of Collin College.

In the second match, the Mustangs again pulled ahead with three doubles victories. The duos of Traxler/Monarrez Yesaki and Perez-Lopez/Petchey each earned their second wins of the day. Tiffany Hollebeck and Anzhelika Shapovalova finished up their match with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, giving SMU a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

Perez-Lopez stood out in singles play, wrapping up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kateryna Avram. The junior improved to an impressive 6-1 in all spring dual matchups. Traxler followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court three over Ela Iwaniuk. The match-clinching point was won on court four, with Nicole Petchey up 6-2, 4-1 over Emilija Dancetovic when the match was retired.

LOOKING AHEAD:
SMU will encounter its first road test of dual match season on Feb. 27-28 with the team traveling to California to face UC Santa Barbara (3-4) and Loyola Marymount (1-1).
