Mustangs Face No. 10 Oklahoma State on Sunday

DALLAS (SMU) - The Mustangs will ride a two-match winning streak into this weekend, traveling to Stillwater, Oklahoma to face No. 10 Oklahoma State (9-3) on Sunday at 1 p.m. It will be the third time this season that SMU takes on a nationally-ranked opponent.
The Mustangs, now 5-6 overall, picked up a 4-2 win against Incarnate Word and a 6-1 win against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday in a doubleheader at the SMU Tennis Complex. Freshmen Jan-Simon Vrbsky and Tomas Vaise continued their impressive dual match seasons, winning both their doubles matches as a pair and all four of their singles matches. SMU dropped just one match against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at No. 6 singles.
SCOUTING OKLAHOMA STATE
Oklahoma State has been in the Oracle/ITA top 25 all spring, only ever reaching as high as No. 15. Currently at No. 10, the Cowboys have two ranked singles players, No. 67 Julian Cash and No. 84 Artur Dubinski, and two ranked doubles pairs, No. 38 Julian Cash/Luke Hammond and No. 60 Julian Cash/Maxim Tybar. Oklahoma State recently competed at ITA National Indoors, defeating Washington but falling to No. 8 USC and No. 14 Columbia. The only other loss on the Cowboys schedule comes against top-ranked Wake Forest.

The SMU men's tennis team picked up two wins in Saturday's doubleheader, defeating Incarnate Word, 4-2, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 6-1, at the SMU Tennis Complex.
The Mustangs improve to 5-6 in the spring dual match season.
SMU countered with four singles victories after losing the doubles point to UIW. Roberto Rosales defeated Caleb Dyer, 6-2, 6-2, to even the score. The Mustangs followed with victories from Tomas Vaise (6-3, 7-5), Gardiner Perotti(6-1, 6-2) and Jan-Simon Vrbsky (3-6, 6-3, 6-4). SMU's sole loss in singles play came at No. 3, with Michael Smithfalling 7-5, 7-5 to Sebastian Mortier.
Hours later, the Mustangs struck first against UAPB. Perotti and Smith partnered to earn a clean 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles, while Vrbsky/Vaise picked up their fifth victory of the season with a 6-1 win at No. 1.
In singles play, Rosales again picked up the first win with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Junius Ross. Eladio Fabregas collected a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4, while Charles Nettlefold won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 to clinch the match.
All matches were played out, giving wins to Vrbsky (6-2, 6-1) at No. 2 and Vaise (7-5, 6-3) at No. 1.
The Mustangs travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma to face off against Oklahoma State on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m.
VRBSKY/VAISE FRESHMAN DUO
Early in spring dual match season, freshmen Jan-Simon Vrbsky and Tomas Vaise have compiled standout performances. The pair combines for a 5-2 record at No. 1 doubles and each boasts a 6-2 singles record through eleven matches. The pair has faced one ranked doubles pair and Vrbsky has faced two nationally-ranked players.
LOOKING AHEAD
SMU takes on No. 34 Memphis (5-3) on Sunday, March 4, for the team's first conference matchup at the SMU Tennis Complex. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
