DALLAS (SMU) – Junior
Latessa Johnson earned the American Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track Most Outstanding Performance Award for her top finish in the 200-meter dash at the conference championships last weekend, the conference announced Wednesday.
The award is presented to student-athletes who recorded the highest-ranking marks on the NCAA performance list at The American Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Johnson won the women's 200-meter dash for the second time in her career, this time breaking the conference record with a time of 23.17. Her mark is No. 22 on this year's NCAA performance list.
She previously won the event in 2016 as a freshman.
Johnson's 200-meter time was a personal best and replaced her own mark of 23.29, set at this year's Tyson Invitational, as the best in SMU history. Following that performance, the Dallas native earned conference athlete of the week honors.
Helped by Johnson's record-breaking performance, SMU track & field earned second-place at the indoor conference championships. The Mustangs returned to Dallas with seven all-conference finishes.
With indoor season wrapped up, SMU looks forward to the start of outdoor season on March 16-17 at the TCU Invitational.
