SMU Plays Two Weekend Matches in New Orleans

Mustangs carry a two-match win streak into the road trip
DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's tennis team (8-7) will travel to Louisiana this weekend for matches against No. 23 Tulsa (14-3) on Friday, March 23, and Tulane (8-8) on Sunday, March 25. The matches, set to begin at 10 a.m. on Friday and noon on Sunday, will both be played at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center in New Orleans.
The Mustangs look to continue their two-match win streak after defeating Troy, 4-1, on March 16 at the SMU Tennis Complex. Ana Perez-Lopez and Sarai Monarrez Yesaki earned singles victories in both matches. Doubles duo Karina Traxler and Monarrez Yesaki have won three straight from the No. 1 position, boasting an 8-2 dual match record.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
No. 23 Tulsa is 14-3 for the season with notable wins against No. 18 Arkansas, No. 10 Michigan and No. 16 Baylor. The Golden Hurricane has won two in a row and travels to New Orleans following a 7-0 victory against then No. 27 Wichita State. Tulsa's roster features two player ranked inside the top-125, No. 75 Ksenia Laskutova and No. 109 Martina Okalova.
Tulane sits at 8-8 entering the weekend and will face off against Tulsa on Saturday before Sunday's match vs. SMU. Most recently, the Green Wave suffered a 5-2 loss at Memphis after picking up their first conference win against East Carolina. Ivone Alvaro leads the Green Wave with a 7-4 singles record, mostly from the No. 3 position.
SERIES HISTORY:
SMU holds an 11-13 all-time record against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, with a 3-2 record on neutral sites. The two teams last met in 2014 in Tulsa, where the Mustangs were met with a 7-0 loss.
Against Tulane, the Mustangs are 4-3 dating back to the first matchup in 1995. SMU holds an even 2-2 record on the road vs. Tulane and suffered a 4-3 loss in the last road match in 2013. The last matchup was in Dallas in March 2015, where Tulane won, 4-0.

SMU jumped out to an early lead by winning all three doubles matches. Ana Perez-Lopez and Liza Buss partnered for the first time this season, picking up a 6-1 win at No. 2.
Karina Traxler and Sarai Monarrez Yesaki improved to 8-2 as a duo with their 6-2 win at the top spot, clinching the point. Tiffany Hollebeck and Nicole Petchey played out their match at No. 3 doubles, winning the final game for a 6-4 score.
The Mustangs continued their streak in singles. Ana Perez-Lopez picked up a quick 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3, her ninth of the spring. Liza Buss followed with her own straight set win, a 6-2, 6-1 rout at No. 2.
SMU surrendered a point to the Trojans at the No. 5 spot, but quickly countered to clinch the match. Monarrez Yesaki earned the final point with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 to improve to 7-7.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Mustangs return home to continue conference play against East Carolina on Saturday, March 31, before the final road match of the season on April 4 at UT Arlington.
