DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Women's Tennis claimed its tenth win Saturday with a 5-0 sweep of East Carolina after winning the doubles point for the 12
th time this spring. The team improves to 30-15 in doubles play during dual match season.
The Mustangs powered through doubles play against the Pirates with
Ana Perez-Lopez and
Liza Buss earning a quick 6-1 win on court two. The duo remains undefeated with a 4-0 record as a pair. SMU clinched the point with a 6-3 win at No. 3 behind
Tiffany Hollebeck and
Anzhelika Shapovalova's sixth win of the season.
The Mustangs continued to outpace the Pirates in singles play with all three of SMU's wins coming in straight sets.
Anzhelika Shapovalova earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory over ECU's Alisa Diercksen at No. 4 to widen SMU's lead.
Liza Buss added a point with her second-straight win, a 6-2, 6-4 decision against Nastja Rettich.
The match-clinching point came at No. 3 singles with
Ana Perez-Lopez's decisive 6-4, 6-3 win over Sarah Sarjoo. The junior has won four of her last five matches and improves to a team-best 11-6 in singles play.
On court six,
Nicole Petchey's battle against Hsia Ho Chiao was in its final game and permitted to finish. She took a 6-4, 6-2 win to add SMU's fifth and final point of the match.
The Mustangs are back in action at UT Arlington on Wednesday, April 4, for the season's last road match. The matchup is set for 2 p.m.
