Fifteen Mustangs Named To APHA NCEA Academic Honor Roll

WACO, Texas (SMU/NCEA) — Fifteen SMU equestrian student-athletes were named to the American Paint Horse Association NCEA Academic Honor Roll, the organization announced Tuesday.

The APHA NCEA Academic Honor Roll recognizes the top academic student-athletes who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.25 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring (2017) and fall (2017) semesters, respectively. There is no competition requirement on this award.

Ten of the 15 APHA NCEA Academic Honor Roll honorees earned Farnam NCEA All-Academic honors for their success in both competition and the classroom. Hayley BanasNora GrayAlexandra MurphyAshley MauneyOlivia PakulaMadison SteedKeagan SnivelyVivian Yowan and Haley Zimmerman all achieved first-team status, which is awarded to student-athletes who compete in a minimum of 70 percent of meets during the 2017-18 season, and earned a cumulative 3.5 GPA while maintaining full-time enrollment. Mary Elizabeth Cordia earned second-team accolades, which is given to student-athletes who showed in at least 60 percent of meets, and achieved a minimum GPA of 3.25.

The SMU equestrian team claimed its first conference title in program history Saturday after defeating No. 3-seed Fresno State, 13-3, in the United Equestrian Conference title round.

SMU (10-5) has earned the No. 5 seed during the NCEA National Championship and will take on defending champions Texas A&M (No. 4 seed, 11-6) in the opening round of the 2018 NCEA National Championship.
