
Mustangs Set For Sunshine State Invitational

DALLAS (SMU) - After a two-week break from competition, SMU is back in action this weekend, competing at the Sunshine State Invitational in Sarasota, Florida on Friday and Saturday.
"We are looking forward to seeing some teams we've never raced before," senior Lauren Vanek said. "We have put in a lot of work since San Diego, and we are excited about how much we've progressed over the last year. We're also excited about the opportunity to compete against two teams from our conference."
Last time out at the San Diego Crew Classic, the Mustangs were led by the first varsity eight boat comprising of Emily Fogg, Juliet Traylor, Brittany Rigg, Vanek, Alyssa Sands, Erin Pierce, Brittany Courteau, Megan Scott, and Madison van Meel. The Mustangs grabbed a runner-up finish in its heat followed by a third-place finish in the finals of the Women's Collegiate Varsity Cal Cup.
Friday's heats begin at 2:20 p.m. CT with the second varsity four. Action of Saturday kicks off with the first varsity eight at 7 a.m. The Mustangs will be competing in four races in total at the Sunshine State Invitational.
The regatta is hosted by UCF while the Mustangs will also be competing against conference foe USF, as well as several other squads.
Following this weekend, the Mustangs are back in action at the Cherry Hill Invitational on Saturday, April 21. The regatta will serve as a tune up for the American Conference Championships, which will also be held in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
