Box Score DALLAS (SMU) – The Mustangs rallied to a 3-3 tie after losing the doubles point, but it wasn't enough to overpower Wichita State (14-8) Friday at the SMU Tennis Complex. In a match that was moved indoors partway through due to rain, the Mustangs fell 4-3 to the Shockers.

The Mustangs fell behind early with two losses in doubles play. Charles Nettlefold and Roberto Rosales took a 6-2 loss at No. 2, and Jan-Simon Vrbsky and Tomas Vaise fell, 6-3, at the top position. SMU falls to 24-30 in doubles play this spring.

Looking to quickly bounce back, the Mustangs pulled out first set wins on four courts. Before any points were recorded, singles play was stopped briefly for threat of weather and matches relocated indoors.

Once play resumed, SMU and Wichita State continued to battle for a lead. Roberto Rosales defeated Andrea Trapani in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, on court six to even the score 1-1. Nettlefold's 7-5, 7-5 finish at No. 4 gave SMU the lead, but it was short-lived. Eddie Stoica defeated Eladio Fabregas, 6-1, 7-6 (1), to even the match at 2 apiece.

Vrbsky earned his tenth win of the season at the No. 2 spot with a 6-3, 6-4 rout of Murkel Dellien, but Wichita State broke up the rally once again with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Vaise at No. 1.

The match came down to No. 3 singles, where Gardiner Perotti was battling Marius Frosa for the deciding point. After a third set showdown, Frosa took the match, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, to give Wichita State the win.

The Mustangs are back in action on Sunday against UT Arlington at the SMU Tennis Complex. The match is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
