SMU looks to rebound against Stetson on Monday

BOX SCORE

ORLANDO, Fla.
- The SMU Men's Soccer team (4-4-1) fell 2-0 to the UCF Knights Friday night despite a second half rally from the Mustangs.

UCF struck first, taking a 1-0 lead, coming in the 22nd minute of the opening half.

In spite of not being able to get a shot off in the first half, junior goalkeeper Grant Makela tallied four saves to give the Mustangs a chance to even the score going into halftime.

In the 59th minute, SMU recorded its first shot of the match when Eddie Munjoma managed to get past the defender to get a shot on goal in an attempt to tie the game.

The Mustangs continued to fight back against the Knights' defense and posted eight more shots, three on goal, in the second half.

Freshman midfielder Knut Ahlander pushed the ball down the field in the 88th minute in a last chance effort to even the score and send the Mustangs into overtime, but UCF's defense blocked the shot.

Makela continued to stand strong in the net, recording eight total saves on the day, but UCF would close the door on a late goal in the 89th minute and lead the Knights to a 2-0 victory.

SMU is now 7-4-4 against the Knights, 1-4-2 when playing in Orlando.

The Mustangs will be back in action in Deland, Fla. on Monday, Oct. 1 for a 6 p.m. CT contest against Stetson. The game will be streamed on GoHatters.com.
