Mustangs Travel To Oklahoma For Road Dual

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team will travel to Norman, Okla., on Saturday, Jan. 19 to face Oklahoma in the first road dual match of the season at the Headington Family Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
SMU started the 2019 dual season on Jan. 17 with a hard-fought match against No. 17 Texas Tech, eventually falling 4-3. The Mustangs won the first three points of the match, claiming the doubles point after a victory by senior Karina Traxler and junior Tiffany Hollebeck. Seniors Anzhelika Shapovalova and Ana Perez-Lopez each won their singles matches in dominant, straight-set fashion. No. 52 Felicity Maltby led the Red Raiders' comeback.
The Mustangs' first competition of the spring was Metroplex Mania, where they picked up 21 singles and 10 doubles victories across four days.
Senior Vivienne Kulicke holds a team-best singles record of 11-4, while Perez-Lopez has a 10-6 mark. Shapovalova did not play in the fall, but has a 3-0 singles and 3-0 doubles record this spring. Traxler leads the Mustangs with 10 doubles wins this season, including a 4-1 record when playing with Hollebeck.
Saturday will be Oklahoma's first dual match of the season. The Sooners are playing a doubleheader, facing Oral Roberts at 4 p.m. on Saturday after the match against SMU.
Oklahoma holds a 6-1 advantage in the all-time series with SMU. The Mustangs' lone win in the series came on Feb. 13, 2016 when SMU beat the then-No. 36 Sooners 4-3.
